How is supernatural season 7 going to end

Yet, the Leviathans, the first monsters God had created, held on inside him and took full control of his body. But instead of exploding instantly, Castiel starts leaking a tar-liquid and makes his way to the nearest water body, submerges himself into it and implodes into black goo. He is deemed dead as there was no body left behind, apart from his trench coat floating on the surface. Castiel, like the Winchester brothers, has died many times on the show, but this is by far the least climatic way the character has been killed.

Yet, all these supposedly scary creatures do is shapeshift and fatten up their victims to eat them. However, despite how many times they were advertised as being dangerous, they never felt like much of a threat. The lowliest demon is given a more terrifying presence in the show. Even their leader, Dick Roman, is there just for the slew of cringe-worthy jokes in the second half of the season.

Though he had a predatory, evil presence, it was all for show and never put into action. With so much change in the air, it's a relief that Castiel has returned to something approaching his former self and it's always a delight to see him and Dean paired up and ready to take on the world.

Cue the triumphant return of the Impala, something this writer - along with most of Supernatural fandom - has been begging for all season. Who didn't punch the air when Meg drove the old girl straight into Leviathan HQ, a classic piece of power rock on the soundtrack? Castiel and Dean confront Dick and are able to stab the villain with their enchanted bone no sniggering at the back but it takes a second bone through the neck to "gank" the chief Leviathan for good But there's a cost - Dick's death throes somehow cause Dean and Cas to vanish, leaving Sam alone and Crowley - with prophet Kevin Tran Osric Chau in tow - more powerful than ever!

But where are Dean and Castiel? Turns out they're trapped in Purgatory - home to the soul of every monster that ever lived And with that final twist, season seven of Supernatural comes to a close. Our thoughts on the season as a whole?

It was an improvement on season six - this show's weakest run - but rarely came close to matching the quality of early seasons. Only the aforementioned 'Death's Door' really hit the mark on every level and there were far too many misjudged 'comedy' episodes peppered throughout the season. Things that didn't work throughout this season include the Leviathans - a thoroughly-unthreatening and poorly-realised threat - and particularly their campy leader Dick Roman.

Hopefully we've seen the last of both. The season also had a tendency to repeat Supernatural 's past glories - the hunter's life starts to get to Dean, Dean lies to Sam, Sam lies to Dean, the brothers part ways 'for good' before reuniting an episode later.

And the lack of the Impala was unforgivable. But 'Survival of the Fittest' was a strong finale and there was a lot that did work this year. While we may love him, a reduced role for Castiel was actually a smart move, upping the stakes for the Winchesters and making the character's eventual return all the sweeter.

I hear it has just a couple of days left next week, and the producers will try to finish the series before sending everyone home. In addition to providing a final chapter for the post-apocalyptic series, Season 7 of The includes a backdoor pilot fore a potential prequel series.
